The City Without Horses
In 1912 the founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway — Carl Fisher, James Allison, Frank Wheeler and Arthur Newby — laid out Speedway as a planned “city without horses” for their factory workers. The track itself opened in 1909 and has 257,325 permanent seats, the most of any sports venue in the world.
Speedway is one of the excluded towns with its own services, and its typical house was built around 1963, mostly cottages and small homes.
